Becky Cosgrove

Did you participate in track or cross country in high school or college?

Yes, I was on the track team my freshman and sophomore year in high school.

How long have you been running?Becky Cosgrove photo

Besides the few years in high school, I didn’t start running until about four years ago. My husband ran some, and I decided I would give it a try. When I’m not running, I also enjoy boot camp classes at GT Bray, Insanity and swimming at the beach.

What’s your favorite race?

The Claw 10-miler at Alafia State Park. It is a very beautiful setting and the race takes you through unmarked areas of the park. If you haven’t done this race, definitely give it a try. You will love it.

What do you consider to be your top running accomplishment?

I ran the Jacksonville Marathon in January 2016 and accomplished my goal of running a sub four-hour marathon. It took a lot of hard work, but I am so happy I finally did it running 3:55:22. [Becky is now qualified to run the 2017 Boston Marathon!]

Why are you involved with BRC?

I like structure so when I decided to start running I thought I would check out BRC and see how I liked it since there were organized group runs available four times a week. I was immediately welcomed the first Tuesday I showed up and felt like it was going to be a good fit right away.

I am very happy that I decided to check out the club and feel that joining the BRC has been one of the best decisions I have made. I have met so many great runners and great people in general and developed new friendships that I feel will last forever.

How long have you been on the board?

I became involved with the board in 2014 and am the chairperson for the scholarship committee. I also try to volunteer at races when I can.

Do you have any favorite memories from your time with BRC?

I remember meeting Joe Siever and Holly (Hans Hollinsworth) at the Turkey Trot and thought they were two of the funniest people around and I still think that.

How have you seen BRC positively impact the community?

We donate to the Food Bank of Manatee County and Turning Points with funds donated from the Turkey Trot. We also provide college scholarships and running camp scholarships to local high school students.

What is your career?

I am a Clinical Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator and have worked at Blake Medical Center since we moved to Florida in September of 2001.
